Rear Suspension springs, & exhausts.

How many of you have encountered rear spring breakage? would you do anything about it? would you go as far as taking measurements of pot holes, man holes, how many of you will just say " Oh hell I've just snapped a spring & pay for the repair without looking for Compensation through you local council, has anyone done it & succeed?

I dont think me breaking the suspension on my first car was anything to do with pot holes ;-)

15 council paving slabs in the rear of my old Renault Fuego bust both rear springs no problem.
Did the job tho .. nice and low after that outing.

I am not a compo seeking person, like the rest of us I pay road tax for a decent road surface, I pay enough for the running costs for our cars (2) I have claimed once & succeeded against Network Rail because of the state of our local crossing that snapped the springs on my car, my Q would you go to lengths to claim or would you just leave it & except it!

Not uncommon apparently and due to poor manufacture rather than potholes and speedbumps.

I know that if you say break an ankle on the pavement, a claim for compensation will not be entertained unless the problem has already been reported.

In this case I would of thought the same would apply but you would also have to prove that the pothole actualy broke the spring. You may havea case if you have a fairly new car but then could you prove that you didn't have a defective spring.

I am not saying you don't have a case but proving it would be very hard.

I've just had the tracking done on my car - again. It was 2 degrees out. I don't hit curbs but there have been one or two potholes I really couldn't avoid on occasion due to traffic and my driving line. ATS said that most tracking they alter now is down to potholes and the state of the roads. Apparently, if you want to claim from the council you have to send in photographs of the pothole, a mechanic's report of the damage etc.etc. I just paid the £30.
