Anyone tried chaning a O/S headlamp bulb in a 2003 Golf? Not as easy as one might imagine !!

Not that this information is of much use to you - but motorists in France are legally required to carry a spare set of bulbs.

However, I don't believe that they are required to have a mechanic with them (to change the bulb).
There was an item on Fifth Gear recently showing the problem of changing a current Renault Megane headlight bulb.

The car has to be jacked up, the wheel removed and the bulb changed by a gynaecologist through a small opening inside the wheelarch.
Its a similar process for the two cars in my family - I have a PT cruiser, my wife has a SportKa - both cars have to have their bulbs changed through inspection hatches in the wheelarch
I've changed them a few times on my Bora which can't be much different. Didn't find it too bad. If you're changing the side lights its easier if you remove the headlight bulb first.

The headlights on Ford KAs are real nuckle scrapers however.
