Hi, I was hoping you may be able to help. Im an unlicenced driver, who swerved to miss a dog and crashed my boyfriends car. After the accident I was in total shock and freaking out bad about how I would go home and tell him. I had a bottle of vodka given to me for a Christmas gift in my car, as I was coming home from her house at the time.I ripped out the bottle to try and calm me and give myself the extra guts to tell my controlling boyfriend. Anyhow I started to walk home and about 40 minutes later the police find me walking home. I told them I had the accident and that I was unlincenced. They conducted a breath test, and took me off to the police station. Problem is now Im being charged with drink driving when I didnt drink before driving.?? I also was treated in a discusting manner by the police. By the time they had me at the police station I was breath less and feeling very sick. They thought I was avoiding my breath test??Once sent home I got a cab home. And I was totally breathless,..and emense pain.I rang my mum,who immediately came over, She raced me staight up to the hospital where I was immediately admitted. I had 2 broken ribs a punchured lung and nerve damage to my hips. I stayed in hospital for 7 days on morphene and oxegen, physo too help reopen my lung too.I personally feel that the police should have taken me straight to hospital instead of worrying about my god dam breath test. I later found that the hospital do conduct them and by the time I got thier I was low range not mid range. At the accident scence they found no scretch marks on road to say I was also speeding so I find that a negative claim for them to right in my statement. Any advice on my situation, would be great!

right ok, i know that indeed u can walk with broken ribs, having suffered one whilst on a call with my husband, seat belt tensioners do work! Your mind is telling you to get help and get away from the danger it perceives you to be in. Drinking from a bottle of Vodka was not a good plan, but i have seen it happen.
She got the cab from the police station, not the scene, as she says re-read it. She had no phone on which to call for help.
But the police are not doctors they are not medically trained to spot the signs and symptoms of shock and injuries. They can only do so much did you try showing them the bruises which should have already been developing???
However, u were an unlicensed driver in Australia where cops are tough on this sort of thing, were you not thinking straight?
They may well throw the book at you hun just because you were driving with out a license, i sorry sweet. I hope it works out for you.

but driving unlicensed invalidates your insuturance does it not? therefore you are totally irresponsible, because you knew straight away that you were illegally driving, it wasn't like you had no idea until afterwards. Oh and in this country we are not supposed to swerve for a dog are we? i think that is an illegal manoevour ot something.
Thats true, and Im not after sympothy, I totally know I was in the wrong for driving unlicenced... I just wanted some other opions, and maybe some advice. after reading all the comments, I am not to sure! My boyfriends car will be replaced by me. And in turn I feel 'I got what I deserve... I will not be taking those kinds of risks again. Lesson learnt! But no-body wants to be punished for things they didnt do.
God bless all,....And thanks for ur time in replying to me.

well its a shame you were not hurt too badly - if your injuries had been life threatening then you might have learnt a lesson. Its people like you that put us legal drivers backs right up - and our insurance premiums!
What if when you swerved to miss the dog you had actually hit a person - but no - you are that selfish you wouldnt have thought of that. I am just glad your thusands of miles away - perhaps you should live in the bush where you can do less damage to others.

You didn't choose to seek medical attention for your injuries. Why do you think the Police should have?
People who drink after an accident are almost invariably trying to cover up for the fact that they were already intoxicated at the time. I very much doubt that you are being honest on this one.
Crashing while swerving to avoid a dog is also a common excuse to explain a single vehicle accident caused by losing control while intoxicated. (Don't forget to practice your description of your fictional dog so you don't slip up when asked to describe it in court.)
Anyway it shows extremely poor driviing skill and judgement to crash a car while avoiding a dog.
