what other types of fuel for a diesel car ?
just curious,i was told that a diesel motor would run on home heating oil,is this true? my guess is it would ruin the engine eventually.

The diesel engine will run on many types of heavy oil, but it is often the fuel pump that suffers as the diesel from the forecourt diesel pump is the right viscosity to provide lubrication to the engines fuel pump.
The diesel engine was originally designed to run on peanut oil for third world countries who had no access to regular fuel supplies.
Biodiesels are good for many diesel engines although they can be acidic if badly made and corrode rubber pipework and seals in pumps.
The engine itself should find little trouble running on heating oil, it's the surrounding equipment that will probably fail.

I ran a Renault 19 diesel and a Vauxhall Astra diesel on sunflower oil with no problems. It was on 49 pence a litre then and was worth it. It's more expensive than diesel now.
Totally illegal by the way because the taxman doesn't get his fuel duty.
