The overall pass rate for the car test has stayed depressingly @ between 46 - 49% since the 1970`s. Only about 1 in 5 canditates pass 1st time. Tip one: private practice is definitely helpful as long as whoever is accompanying you doesn`t give you wrong advice - if in doubt check with your ADI. Tip two: make sure you know the Highway Code rules - the Examiner will want to see you comply with them. Tip three: try to book a test early in the week - I won`t go into the reason for this, but it can make a difference. The DSA`s rule of thumb guide to the number of lessons is one for each year of your life, but it`s aptitude that counts. I remember a Fleet Air Arm jet pilot who was absolutely hopeless in a car! Best of luck.
Hey
I passed my driving test on the 1st May. It was my first time aswell which I was very suprised at!
I had about 30 lessons in total and was also driving my dads car every night aswell for two weeks. If you have the chance to do that then do it as I think it helps you get used to having somebody else in the car with you thats not your instructor.
One thing I will reccomend to you is Bach rescue remedy, its a herbal remedy that is designed for stressful things such as driving tests. I dont think I would have passed if it was not for that magic potion as i was so chilled out on my test!!

Good luck to you,
:)
