parking ticket - dated in the future...can i have it dismissed??
i got a parking ticket on the 19th of april, (unecessary obstruction) because the back of my car was slightly overlapping someones driveway and as it turned out they couldnt squeeze out... a misjudgement on my part...it looked like they had enough room to me...
but, ive just noticed that the ticket is dated the 19th of MAY...
obviously i'm no time traveller, an my friend believes that make the ticket invalid an i dont have to pay it
she says i just write a letter to the address on the ticket, and it will be dismissed.
is this corect?
any ideas what i should write in the letter??
thanks
(no lectures please...i know what i did, i accept that i shoudl have been more careful, and was just going to pay....no quibbles...but like anyone i dont want to pay 30 if i dont have to...who would?)

It used to be the case but nowadays it is treated as a slight administrative error and doesn't void the ticket. Worth querying though - you may be lucky. But if they don't budge at the first attempt, pay up. It will save you money in the long run.

thanks all
yes, i think its only if they cant get OUT of their drive...not IN.
it was daft because i parked in a space with plenty of room...and i knew there was room for their car, i had checked...but then i decided to back up a little bit in order to give the car in front a bit more space to get out.... must have had short term memory loss i think because i didnt even think about the drive then...

Well I dont think you should have to pay it.. since they now cant prove when the offence actually ocurred... surely without proof of the offence as to when it was committed you cant be done for it...
You need to really make sure you comunicate with them quickly though.. I dont know how you could prove your car is somewhere else on 19th May as JD suggests.. that might be tricky.. but get on the case!!!

They will have proof of when the ticket was issued though - it is usually the police that deal with obstruction and it will be recorded in the officer's/ warden's pocket book.
It is nowadays considered a minor administrative error and does not void the ticket.
In any case, the police can re-issue a Fixed Penalty giving the correct date, or issue a summons giving the correct date.
