I was always under the impression that when you got 'done' it was technically for not displaying a tax disc, not for not being taxed. Now you can renew your tax disc on line it says that as soon as you have done it your car is taxed. Has the law changed now?

no you get so many days because it comes through the post do mine all the time now via the internet......so even if you havnt got the disc on your car....if you were spoted by one of those police vans with camers it would go through to dvla and as long as youve pressed the ordered button theyd know
You get five days 'grace' at the beginning of the month, as long as you have actually taxed it and are waiting on the post.
If you prefer to tax in the last few days of the month, there is now an exemption from the offence of not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month and allows time for the new disc to arrive in the post.
