where can i carry out a check on my current car to find out its history?

There are a few different companies now that will perform this service for you, I believe the original and still the best, and also the cheapest is HPI based in Salisbury. Go to www.hpicheck.com. I think the AA also perform these checks, and there is a firm called cardata too I believe.

word of caution - HPI will only give you information about whether it is on finance, has had a change of number plate, has been written off in an accident/fire or the mileage (if people have bothered filling in the log book when transferring the vehicle).

 

If you want to find out its history, best ask the person selling it. If it is a newer vehicle and been serviced at main dealers, any of thedealers in the network should be able to print out what has been done to that car in the workshop.

This site is free (on registering) and will give you some information eg previous owners, make, model etc. Try it out - it's also quite fun!
