I'm travelling from Holyhead to Dover at the end of the month, midweek at about 3 or 4 pm. The route apparently takes me via the M6. Is it worth using the the toll road?

I would decide as you approach it, if it looks quiet take the motorway, if its busy use the toll road
Well worth it. Hardly any traffic, no queues. Even if the main M6 looks quiet, you never know what traffic jams may be ahead. We don't often need to go that way, but if we do we always use the toll road.
you can always check on the BBC website to see if there are any jams, though of course others may appear out of nowhere when you're already there.
If you come in on the M20 rather than the M2, give me a wave - my offices back onto the road to the docks in Dover!
It's a bit expensive, so I have never used it.
well worth the money, used it a few times at various times of day and therers always been far less traffic than the non toll M6, a bit like driving on a motorway at 3am only in daylight !!
When you get to the end of the M6 Toll, it joins the M42 at junction 9. You need either of the two outside lanes. Gantry signs are M6 London.
Again, at the end of the M6, after junction 1 Rugby you need either of the two outside lanes.
We've used it many times and it's always been worth it.
Hi, you can avoid the toll if you follow this route, you obviously know your way to Shrewsbury? take the A442 to Kidderminster then the A448 to the M5, Follow the M5 North until you pick up the M40 Its a roundabout way but you will then cut out the delays at Luton down to the M25, if you check you Map you will see the directions given to you. Ex HGV.
^ or just take at a tour around the midlands and add a lot more time to your journey

I usually gauge the density of the traffic as I approach the toll road and most of the time when I've chosen not to use it I've experienced no hold-ups, but at really busy times It's been worth spending a fiver to use the toll road (the only downside being that sometimes you exit the toll road and find yourself straight back into really heavy M6 traffic)
As I said to you the other day Joeluke, you do not know a lot do you? do you know where Holyhead is? ask a driver.
that part of the m6 has roadworks and is always a car park morning and night at peak times. i would definitely recommend the m6 toll. my husband uses it quite a bit for travel with work. going north is fine but south on the m6 is a nightmare.
TWR....Holyhead, North Wales

The OP was obviously wanting to go via the M6 so why advise her to go across country avoiding the M6?
I dont belive you'v posted that Joeluke If you know anything about driving, you go the shortest route " or do you" End of storey.
