Speed camera has anyone come across one of this sort?
A new device has appeared near me, it is the normal speedlimit reminder and if triggered it displays the speedlimit and slow down sign. The snag is, I (admit) I was driving too fast and it flashed as I approached just like a Gatso only it was in front of rather than behind me. There are no warnings or road markings. The question is can I be ''done''

Have felt a bit insecure after posting the answer so just googled and found this that relates to close to where I live, cant find any trace of legal action being taken by speeding anywhere,GoodLuck..;-
We use several types of interactive signs on Kent's roads. These signs help us to increase road safety.
What is an interactive sign?
An interactive sign, also known as a vehicle activated sign, is a sign that reacts to the behaviour of drivers.
If a vehicle is moving faster than the speed limit, or if approaching a hazard, such as a bend, at an inappropriate speed, the sign will be activated.
Currently, there are around 145 signs around Kent, the majority of which remind drivers of the speed limit.
Speed limit reminder signs
The interactive speed sign is used to tell drivers that they have not reduced their speed, after entering a lower speed limit.
Signs are placed 100 to 250 metres after the start of a lower speed limit. If a vehicle is travelling above the speed limit, a radar beam triggers the sign. When this happens, the speed limit is illuminated on the sign and flashing amber lights come on above and below that sign. The sign remains illuminated for 4 seconds.

Like I say KJN, I hope you are right or these things could pop up anywhere. The one I described would have to be dual function i.e. reminder at limit +x and camera for limit +xx. The box is about 2ftx1ft I'm not sure the technology currently exists.
Thanks for your research, I couldn't find a reference either.
Will let you know.

KJN A hand held device can calculate speed without road markings. The principle of operation can also be applied to permanently sited cameras. If the road markings are no longer visible or clear they can be superimposed onto the photograph. Absence of road markings does not mean absence of prosecution.
How can they be superimposed? If they did how could you be sure that it was accurate? If they could superimpose why do they bother painting them on the road.
I live in Kent and have seen a lot of these I have never seen one flash in fact I have never seen one witha camera I have seen them about 100yds before a camera.

All the road markings are painted to the same dimension and position in relationship to the camera. When the photograph is reviewed at the ticket office the lines can be over layed onto the photo on a computer as they are constant to all speed cameras.
As for why they paint them on the road, I don't know
