Renault Clio 1997 cut out problem
I would be intrested to hear from anyone who is having difficulties with their Clio cutting out and stalling. I am having this problem at the moment and don't know what to do. I have had it in the Renault garage 3 times now and the problem is still not sorted. They are telling me someting different each time. I have a young baby so it is quite dangerous when the car cuts out on me. Any suggestions or anyone having same problem

My wife had a 1996 Clio with the same problem. It turned out to be a problem with the 'computer system' within the engine. Our local Renault dealership found this out by putting the VIN/Chassis number into their computer and it was confirmed that a series of Clios made at the time our car was made, contained this fault! Get in touch with Renault UK and ask them to check the VIN/Chassis number for you.
We have young kids and it's a worrying thing to have to put up with - good luck!
Hi All,
Thought I would add my bit to the above saga.
My car 51 reg Clio 1.2 Authentique 34,000 mls cuts out without warning while I am driving at any speed at any time. It may start up again after one turn of the key or you can be sat there trying it for about ten minutes before it starts again.
It has been in a local Renault garage for 5 day's on the computer for faults (none found what a surprise) and out on several road tests.
Picked it up today and garage (Renault Dealer) said nothing wrong with the car but it is dangerous. When asked what can I do they answered do not know.
I suppose one thing in their favour they did not charge me for doing nothing.
I cleaned the TDC sensor myself this afternoon. I'll try it for a couple of days and see how it goes.
Oh and by the way sometimes when I turn the key to start the car all I get is a click sound from the passenger side front bulkhead and no lights on the dashboard.
Anyone else with the same problems be happy you are not alone........
