Using your handbrake to stop the car

If your brakes failed or you somehow got something stuck underneath and they were not able to function would it be wise to suddenly pull the handbrake up, or pull up in a controlled and not so sudden fashion, also what would be the implications and how would the car react if doing this at 30, 60 and 100mph respectively?

Hi Eddie, a little storey but true, I intended to go for a Learner Driver Course a few years ago, I found out that the Pillock that was teaching me was an EX MILK FLOAT DRIVER!!! he did not know what I meant when I ask him regards the Braking of the car, He could not understand what the 2nd braking system was, This part is very true, I asked him why he left the milk job to his reply, I turned the milk float over, my reply, where they gold tops! that went down very well needless to say I told his firm if that is the type of Instructors you employ you can stick your course.
