he has possibly hit the abs sensor when fitting the driveshaft as they are only plastic

hi thanks for answering my query, i am just going to ask the mot centre tomorrow to fix do u think it will be a expensive job? lol knowing garages probably yes
my abs came on after I bought a second-hand toyota corolla - somebody did tell me if this light remained on it wont pass the MOT as I had the car about 2 weeks I brought it back to the garage where I bought it and they had to send for a part but they fixed it. TG. You do need to get it fixed.
The reluctor ring is broken easily, that could be the problem, ask for good advice here...........

I had a very similar problem and sought advice on here quite a while back. Despite going to 4 garages including the dealership none could say what was wrong, only that the diagnostics weren't communicating and I might need a new ABS ECU at £700. In the end someone did something with the wiring so the light came on with ignition and then went out just to get it through an MoT.
You need to check with your mechanic if he had need to unplug the ABS SENSOR loom and the ignition switch was not turned off. check plug is clipped in firmly.
Have the ABS code read and cleared. Unless the sensor or loom is damaged the ABS light will work normally.
Hi
I have been working on one of my cars today .. a Renault Megane Coupe .. working on the ABS!
To change the shaft, they 'should' have removed the sensor from the hub carrier .. but many dont. So they must have torn the cable or damaged the sensor. The reluctor ring is famous for cracking .. so you need to know if shaft was new .. remanufactured .. or a fix-up job. Reluctor rings are on eBay alone for about a tenner. Get the correct no of teeth if you need one. They need heating to fit on (shrink fit)
When the sensors are correct, the ABS light .. and the Service light will go out of own accord down the road. The car ECU stores minor codes .. but will not stop ABS working.
Mark1 facelift and Mk2 have electronic speedo fed from ABS unit. This takes a signal from any wheel sensor input.
Get them to replace/repair the sensor, and make sure replacement match original (especially the ring teeth no)
Any more info please ask! : )
PS .. A quick test for wheel sensor operation is to jack each side and whizz the wheel round a fit with your foot .. with ignition ON. If working, the ABS pump will click a several times quickly.
