Cat C and D write offs.

Watchdog last week did an expose on this, they mentioned that if a vehicle has been written off , category C or D, then this is in the logbook somewhere. Any idea what section? I can't seem to find an appropriate section anywhere on the the ones I've got. Thanks.

Cat C damage requires a VIC before the V5C is reissued. When issued there will be an entry in the Special Notes section (3) on the front cover along the lines of "vehicle has been substantially damaged".

Cat D requires no VIC marker therefore no reason for a V5C to be updated. However an HPI check should flag it.

Because there was a Garage selling them but claiming only minor damage. Some of the cars had been repaired very poorly and in some cases where death traps waiting to happen.

Mdoo98 - cat D cars are the ones that it are uneconomical to repair, Cat C are the ones that are damaged beyond repair and represent a safety risk, Did you know that?!

Cat C is NOT damaged beyond repair.

Beyond repair implies the car should never return to the road - that is the reserve of Cats A & B.

Cat D represents damage that would cost around 60%-100% of the car's value if repaired by an appoved repairer.
Cat C represents damage that an approved repairer would charge in excess of 100% of the car's value to rectify.
