Labour charge is very cheap, it should take under 2 hours though. £117 is about right for a recon alternator for your Clio.

Yes - I agree.

I'm not familliar with the Clio but it should be less than an hour to fit an alternator on most cars.

doesnt sound a million miles off, £35.00 per hour is pretty good, many garages are £60 - £120 per hour !! £117.00 for an alternator is not over the top..

They recomended also changing the battery , because the alternator has been overcharging it and has more or less been ' cooked ' it .

Does that sound right ?

I've just paid £470 for a vauxhall. Is the labour cost £70 total or £70 per hour?

Got one from Halfords for under £80 .

Garage fitted it plus did a few other things on car , for £ 70 labour .

£200 to replace a knackered alternator ? Total rip off IMO - less than 1/2 hr labour.
Plus it's not even a new one - don't go to that garage again !!
Re-conditioned alternators are made out of old knackered ones that have been handed in - money is normally knocked off because of this.

Anyway, too late now - at least you got some sort of a better deal.
