My car an 05 reg, never bothered having it serviced, always been well maintained etc.
Anyway I spoke to a dealer with regards to trading it in for a bigger 03 model, the dealer said becuase it has no service history it would be hard to sell on

Is this true or just dealer talk?

No it's not just dealer talk. Servicing a vehicle regularly is a sign that it has been looked after and a bit of reassurance to the buyer that it will be reliable. If it's a popular make, no buyer in their right mind would choose a car which has no service history over one that hasn't. How many miles have you done since you bought it?
10000000% true, service history is vital. Lack of it can knock 1000's off the value. You must be the only motorist on the planet not aware of this.
True. A car with service history that you can hand over when you sell it, lets the buyer know exactly what's been done to it over the years.
However service history is easily and often faked within the trade...

' never bothered having it serviced, always been well maintained etc. '

no service = no service history ! i wouldnt fancy buying 5 year old car without any
..the whole point of a service history is to show its been looked after and had the recomended filter changes and checks (ie tyres/pads/levels etc)
Do you have a service book of any description ? it would have had one from new showing vehicle details ,security codes, warranty start date ,1st service...etc.
