I'm going to send off for my provisional licence soon (i've heard they take ages to get back to you) and use some (hopefully not most) of the saving in my account to pay for lessons and the test, seeing as dad won't put me on the insurance for the jag.

For those of you that only had lessons with a proper instructor in their car, how much did you spend in total? (I know this'll vary a lot)

And how much are the tests, or does it vary from company to company?

I had 7 lessons, if I remember correctly 4x1hr and 3x2hr and back then I paid £11 an hour.

really can't remember how much the test was.

you should get yourself the PCcd of the theory test first and get some practise in on that and the hazard perception element, the test costs £31 but you can't do any other test without that first

Then go for an intensie course instead of wasting money on sporadic lessons

But I'll wait until after my June exams to start to make sure I have the time to focus on it properly else I'll have forgottten what i was doing if I only have a couple hours a week.

I had one 1hour lesson. I;'d been driving for a while by then.

Dotty there's a theory thing that the school got for us for free and I have an account with it. A few years ago there was a crash with a couple of girls from my high school who died so the school bought this programme that's like an online tutorial for theory things and gets you used to looking at a million things at once then asks you random questions to see if you noticed stuff.

dotty, my dad said he had a couple of hours the second of which was the test, the theory test was the isntructor aksing a few random questions.

that's the hazard protection element of the theory test, you have a set window of time to correctly indentify the percieved hazard

it was about 20 years ago and I got a small discount because my driving instructor was a friend of the family, think it would have been about £15 an hour otherwise.

I figured that there's no point having all that money in the bank else i'll never spend it, although i will be going on a scuba diving marine conservation holiday in summer '12 but the two shouldn't leave me bankrupt plus i'll have a job in the summer.

Molly theres an ABer your age and for the life of me I cant remember his name -anyhow he has just sat his test so hope he sees this and might be able to help although the replies you have had have been very good and informative.

I paid £5 per lesson and I needed a lot of lessons (I think I had 30) .... but it was a very long time ago.
