does anywhere do it at an affordable price! 17 yrs old and about to take test but quotes are totally unreasonable, £3000 plus. understand the reasons, but should'nt all be tarred with the same brush. thanks for any help.
Try adding an adult with a clean driving history to your poilcy, it might help bring the premium down. Be sure you are the main policy holder and the other person is just a named driver, not the other way round as it's illegal.
That is how much it costs for a new young driver - certainly worth shopping around, but you can sometimes bring the price down by adding yourself as a driver. There have been questions about this in the past - I 'll see if I can find one.
Try adding an experienced driver to the policy. Might knock a few hundred quid off. Also there are a few companies ( box it?) which fit trackers and this reduces the premium considerably.
Many young drivers cant afford their own policy straight away.
Try going as a named driver on an adults policy or add drivers with many years of accident free motoring to your policy. £3000 isnt the worst quote I have heard. My cousin wanted fully comp on his own policy, with his older brother ( a driver of 2 years - but with an accident on record) as an additonal driver on a 1.4 VW Polo - £4,600!!
JD, if the 17 is going to be the main driver of the car it is illegal for them to be just a named driver on someones elses policy for that car. They must have their own insurance where they are named as the main driver. Much as that might cost a fortune and absolutely suck. But still it really shouldn't be done.
Thanks everyone, have put her dad as main driver with full no claims and 35yrs unblemished driving history but still around £2600. Tried aviva yesterday with myself as main driver, again 35 yrs unblemished driving( no no claims tho, its all on her dads ) and they wanted £6800! Thanks again, going to look at that wesite boxtops. Ta
How would an insurance company know if the person listed as the main driver???
My ex had 2 DD convictions and couldn't get her own insurance so the car was registered in her dads name and he was listed as the main driver although he wasn't and my ex was the named driver.
So please tell me again how the insurers would know
Depends what it's insured for. Work and pleasure and then the youngster crashes in working hours. They will start asking questions and you'd better be a good liar because if they have any suspicions they won't pay out.
They can find out in various ways, one of them being that the person you have down as the main driver has another policy out in their own name with them down as the main driver. Fronting I think it's called.
Ex's car insured with Dad as main driver, her dad was a named driver on his car with her mum being the main driver.
She has an accident whilst going to work so just says i was using the car on a day off.
Totally unproveable.
I think some of you give far to much credit to insurance companies.
I used to DJ and had a large van for all my equipment. My mother who is an OAP was registered as the main driver, the insurance company couldn't give a toss.
I never had business insurance because if I had an accident there is no way they can prove I was using the van for business purposes.
Lets be honest in 90% of accidents the Police aren't called so it's just down to the drivers to swap details so the insurance companies have no 3rd party evidence so once again I don't know how they will know that you were using it for a purpose you shouldn't be
im a new driver and when i looked for insurance every where was quoting me £2500 so i thought i was never guna get insurance then i went to tesco valuie insurance and fully comp only cost me £1100 a year. sounds a lot but the best offer i had of anyone so id suggest trying them
just looked for my 17 year old daughter last night ,with her father as named driver £840 fully comp with diamond ins.Rises to £1200 when she passes her test. Its a scandal!!!
