I am in my 30's and went to the eye hospital for an eyelid issue - turns out all was fine except I have occular hypertension - she emasured with a blue light tool and said it was 24 in one eye and 25 in the other.

I have been using nasal steroids for 15 years to manage my sinus inflammatory condition and the doctor said it could be this but she cant be sure. She wants to review in 6 months

Im now worrying as I have to take the nasal steroid drops ive no choice. Even if I had sinus surgery If still ahve to take them (one ent recommended surgery the other didnt so ive no idea what to do). Just feel a bit trapped knowing meds are possibly damaging my eyes

Has anyone had occular hypertension? I know it can lead to glaucoma

can't help you - got a C in opthamology.....

I hope you get some sensible answers, Blue. However, the person you should be asking is the ENT specialist.

Sometimes, having a thick cornea can appear as occular  high pressure.

One treatment is to have laser iridotomy. It is quick and painless, done with local anaesthetic and hopefully stops glaucoma .

See an opthalmologist at your local hospital who can give you the best treatment.

Thats interesting the results say my cornea thickness is 583 and 577 microns, so based on a quick google about average I think.

Even if I see ent again I know I'l have to stay on nasal steroid drops as theres no alternative. I did express my concerns about long term use to ent before. In the 15 years of having this Ive tried to come off them many times but within 2 days i am congested, have a horrible feeling of discomfort and polyps start to grow.

I've had it for years, and so did my mum. I take eye drops and get tested once a year. The drops keep my eye pressure low enough not to be a problem. I also take tablets to keep my blood pressure not a problem. I'm old and have got used to my body wearing out a bit. If you are young it's not welcome news. But it can be controlled and you should try not to worry; just follow doctor's advice. It's not a death sentence, and I'm sure you'll be OK. Best wishes.

Thanks Athiest I wonder do the treatments for eye pressure still work if the cause is steroids..

Its just very frustrating as I get angry now and again about having to manage constant synptoms from this sinus disease and now Im getting eye problems due to the treatment from it.

I dont mind going to ent but hate going to my gp. I rememebr working on wards during covid and teh masks were making my breathing worse. I went to my gp and this nurse with an attitude was there instead she kept saying 'its a nuisance, I mean you'l have it for the rest of your life love' saracasticly. Honestly no one takes sinuses seriously

I really don't know anything about sinuses and steroids. I think you'll have to let the docs do what they can and try not to let it get you down; it will probably turn out OK. Good luck.

I wish I could help you more, but I can only speak from my experience. My cornea measurements = 624 so high.

The laser treatment has worked so far with no sign of glaucoma. I have no history of eye drops.

I wish you well

Listen to the eye doctors chrissakes

Yes,of course, Peter.  Blue asked if  anyone had had occular high pressure so I answered as yes. An opthalmologist will be certain to know the next move.

Thanks clem if you dont mind me asking how high were your pressures?

Hi Blue my occular pressures were 22 in both eyes

I've been using latanaprost eye drops for ocular xs pressure for years - on drop in each eye every night, pressure reduced from 20s to 15/16.

A friend had an operation to open some sort of drain vent in the back of the eye which also works & avoids medication.

walk-ins should notice there is confusion between ocular pressures ( not above 20) and corneal  thickness (hundreds) which are two different  things

which  kinda colours the question - does anyone know about eyes

There is no confusion.

A high reading of Cornea thickness can affect the reading of intraocular pressure. So, a high intraocular pressure may not be as bad as it appears. My cornea thicknesses were  629 and 627. The consultant took this into consideration when reading the intraocular pressures and said they were acceptable.

isnt this long for " listen to the eye doctors?"

Luckily tests have shown the editor asssures me, that no one takes medical advice given  on AB

Peter I didn't give advice. I stated facts backed up by the link.

PP - pull your neck in. People here have related their own experiences. No one has advised the OP to do anything other than take heed of his medical professionals.
