Hi, I was driving my friends vehicle and had all of his details (address etc etc). I was stopped the other day claiming that i have no insurance, which my friend did have (as far as i know) - I was given a producer to produce, licence (both parts), insurance & MOT. As he's not in the country, i'll have to produce the documents, but i'd like to know how i'd get around this..

Anyone have any advice??

You will simply have to produce your driving licence at the police station and explain the circumstances. If the house is empty and you don't have access, I don't see what else you can do.

Hopefully the databases will show the vehicle is mot'd and insured and they can get the details from there.
Not quite sure what you mean here - has your friend specifically paid for you to be a named driver on his insurance policy?

If not and you do not have insurance covering you to drive that car then it sounds as if you were uninsured.

It's very unusual for someone to have a policy that covers anybody to drive a specific car. Just because he's insured to drive his car doesn't mean you are

Well simply: Car is NOT mine, NOTHING is in my name, so i gave all his details. etc.

I'll just leave it and not produce anything - When he is back he can say someone took his vehicle and drove it without his permission and he doesnt know who it is. (They don't know who the driver is... But at the time the person (me) who drove posed as him..
That'd be very nice of him to say that - It'd lay him open to a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

He could tell them that you took the car without his permission and then he'd be fine but you'd be facing that charge.

Hope he's a good friend

he's a good friend - What will happen if he says someone took his car without him knowing - he is on holiday, so he has got tickets that he's been there n back..
He would be quizzed very closely to try and work out who knows enough about him to give all his details when stopped by the police, to have his car keys whilst he is on holiday and he could be done for allowing the use of his car without insurance.

Why on earth did you give the police false details?
Question Author
didn't have a choice mate.

Everyone could know about his date of birth, address etc. + He technically didn't allow anyone to use his car (The car does have insurance by the way) - 'someone' just took the keys and used the car, so i don't think anything will really happen as they dont know who was actually using the car (They just think it's hi, but he was out the country and has tickets/stamps to proove this)..
Believe me the police will get to the bottom of this, at some point he'll have to say you where driving, if only to save himself, then they'll through the book at the pair of you. How long have you got to produce? presumably not enough time for your mate to get back from hols.
How do you expect him to explain how someone else could have got hold of his keys without his knowledge?

So you twoc the car, have no insurance, no licence and pervert the course of justice.

Are you stupid or something?
is this another wind-up to try & get a response from Norman?
I was thinking the same, mushroom.

No wind up, all for real. I have licence but just no insurance on the car.. 7 days to produce.
not that I'm condoning this but just wait until your mate returns and then get him to produce. In reality it'll take the police at least a fortnight to realise you haven't produced, by then he'll just get a ********** for being late.
If you gave your mates' details and you say he was insured, how come the database was saying no insurance.
I presume, unless they were new and naive, that the police officer got you to sign the producer for comparison to the driving licence when produced. Consequently Looseheads solution would not work. Besides what sort of friend drags his mate into trouble. Face up to your responsibities and admit what you have done before you add even more offences to your ever increasing tally.
I am glad you are not a friend of mine,

You're so lucky Marvelman..

So basically what's the deal - I don't produce *hit and just go along with it?

I got top class professional advice from a mate saying "forget about it" - He has 5 producers since the last 36months and nothings happened to him for not taking anything down to the old bill.

"Warner Brother when you see the POLICE"

So it's a hustle out here.. It's got to be done.

You people make me sick - do you know how much time I waste investigating claims where monkeys like you crash cars, and then they're mates pretend the car was stolen?

What I really hope happens is that the copper who pulled you is on the desk of the police station and doesn't recognise your mate - I attended court on one of these a little while back - you both get stuffed, you get the book thrown at you for perverting the course of justice, no insurance (IN10), and your mate also gets perverting, a failure to disclsoe the driver if he's unlucky (MS90), and the insurance company will be notifed by the police, resulting in a cancelled policy and the pair of you idiots being loaded onto databases that effectively zero your credit rating for 12 months and leave you as a proven fraudster for life on your credit rating.

I love catching you scumbags out and the grief it causes you
Well said gouldc. Sadly the penalty does not fit the crime.

A driving licence is a privilege not a right. The privilege has been abused. Their licence/licenses should be torn up and thrown away. Full stop.
Further to my previous posting, I think it may be a wind up. Surely no person of driving age can have this kind of mentality?
