I parked in Costco in Reading (i have a costco card and shop there) but went instead to see a Reading football match. 3 months later i receive a parking fine. There was no ticket on my car at the time and this notice came out of the blue. As I am a paid up member of Costco do they have a right to issue a fine for parking on their site whether I'm shopping there at the time. Any answers appreciated.

yes they do. There are very often traffic wardens about on the day of matches, and i was in b and q one match day, and there was a warden trying to put one on my car! Luckily i saw him and he was able to see i wasn't at the match. I expect you'll find there is notices to this effect - there certainly is in the band q/bhs car park.

In fact, thinking about it, isn't there normally people on the approach road standing by a sign that say "no match parking"?

I am going to costco tomorrow so will look and see if there are signs and get back to you
ans i also meant to say, i dont know if you know oxford road, but if you park at lidl by reading west, they give you a parking ticket if you step over the car park line onto the street.
The police couldn't care less about you parking on private land.

You have received an invoice from a private parking company, it is not a fine.

I will look for another thread where I have given the template letter for you to send.
We always park in Morrisons and walk round.
Personally, I'd say your mistake was going to watch Reading!!
