Straight from the high way Code.http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport /Highwaycode/DG_070202

RED AND AMBER also means Stop. Do not pass through or start until GREEN shows.

AMBER means Stop at the stop line. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident.
Listen we are all violently agreeing here. Most of the time amber means stop, we are all aware of the 1% of the time when it doesn't

Once again thank you all for your answeres. I didn't mean to start an argument war between ABrs and I apologise for that but I still think the crossroads problem could be a grey "gray" area in some insurance claims.
A
Definitive answer from 3 crown prosecution lawyers.......they do not prosecute any motorist for driving through an amber light. I asked three of the lawyers one a solicitor the other two barristers who work as prosecutors in Magistrates court the question about driving through light at amber. Oh yes they also said the highway code was not motoring law
Do me a favour oldmaggie, you said it was not illegal to drive through on amber, please tell me the legislation that states that fact.
Good grief, TLC-MUMPING, you quoted it yourself!

"The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 36 e)"

Perhaps, in quoting it, you forgot to actually read it?
Erm rojash I know that but she is a Magistrate who said it was NOT illegal. I know she's talking mince but I thought I'd let her try to defend hersel.
