Is it me? But I'm seeing miles of page space taken up by //copying and pasting exactly what someone has posted// than adding one's own two pennorth.
This then becomes part of an online copy and pasting competition between a small group of combatants.
It's exactly like a yearning for 1990s IT has broken out. remember? When forums automatically churned out miles of unnecessary text?
The C&P posts make my head hurt, the posters claim it's for clarity but by and large it rarely clarifies anything for me.
It may be easier to read if AB allowed for quotes to be inserted in a separate box as I've seen on other forums, at least then it is easier to recognise the C&P element.
As a regular 'cutter and paster' I am in agreement that it works - especially if referring to a post which may not be visable - it may have dropped onto the previous page.
Some people complain, but only a few, and you can't please everybody.
Have to say, I have seen this used on the same page too, all I had to do was scroll up. It's not neccesary on the same page. Thanks for highlighting this.
If I’m responding to a post a distance away I tend to copy and paste the section I want to refer to, along with the poster’s name – otherwise my post makes no sense to the reader - but copying and pasting the irrelevant bits of someone else’s post just creates unnecessary repetition - not to mention confusion - and often sheer tedium.
its really irritating, if we had the facility for quotation boxes, would made it much clearer, often especially in news there are pages and pages of c&p and some in there are a tad on the "wordy" side.....
Make it easier on yourself and follow my example- ignore 'em all!
AndyH, God love him is the main culprit for this, and I really do love him dearly, but I can't being myself to read his looooooooooooooooooong posts with the downright weird //'s thrown in. What is wrong with using the quote marks on your keyboard?
