Me and a work colleague are reminiscing over old comedy songs. He's come up with a partial lyric but neither of us can come up with the artist or title. The lyric goes 'In fact I dont know what it is, but there it goes again'. The subject may be to do with a noise!?
Sounds like Marvellous Toy by Tom Paxton but isn't:
When I was just a wee little LAD, full of health and joy.
MY FATHER HOMEWARD CAME ONE day AND GAVE TO ME A TOY.
A wonder to behold it was with many colours bright
And the moment I laid eyes on it, it became my heart's delight.
It went zip when it moved and bop when it stopped whirrrrr when it stood
still
I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will.
I remember it now. Had forgotten Anthony newley's comedy records. Tried Rolf Harris, Charlie Drake, Bernard Cribbins, Peter Sellers and then gave up!!!
I take that back Machecoul, Marvellous Toy does not have a sad ending. Just downloaded it from Limewire. Says the artist is Val Doonican and that's who I remember singing it but not sure if it's Val singing. Anyway brings back memories from my childhood...good song. They don't make 'em like that anymore!!!
