why did snow patrol sack their bass guitarist?

The 'official' statement was along the lines of  "The band is unable to move on with the recordings for the new album while Mark McClelland was in the band ...." but McClelland responded by advising that he was amazed to be fired, and reckoned that Gary Lightbody wanted to turn the  band into a 'solo' effort.

Pick the bones out of that, and it's the usual - screaming rows, toys out of prams, and someone has to go. Rock and roll? Phew!
