Considering all musical genres and styles, who do you consider to be the best songwriter of the '90s, and why?!

I'l start the ball rolling with elliott smith. Without a doubt he wrote some of the finest songs of all time, and has an amazing voice and guitar technique to match.

Radiohead, Girls Aloud, Smashing Pumpkins, Lionel Richie, Jah Cure, The Pogues, Barrington Levy, George Michael, The Dubliners, Will Young, Christina Aguilera, Jackson 5, Cleopatra, Simply Red, Crowded House, The Streets.  Grime, Hip hop, RnB, rock, reggae, dancehall, funky house, soul, swing.

I listen to just about everything.  Oh, I don't like Usher or Britney.

these seem like answers that i would agree with on the whole, although i would be interested to know if uv heard elliott smith, and prefer these individuals, or havent heard his music ?!

ah ok. well if you like the beatles, dylan, simon and garfunkel etc, then check this guy out!!! He's not majorly mainstream, but what he did when he was around is highly likeable!
