God knows, though I'm a mobile DJ and have been asked for this a lot. BTW, it is God awful as much of the chart stuff seems to be lately. None of it seems to have any guts to it, it's no surprise that a good time sing a long song like Amarillo spent so long at No1. Record companies take note, people like to have a good time and a singalong and not just get bumpy and grindy to R'n'B tunes. Perhaps a few more record companies should search their back catalogues and re-release some of that cheesy party stuff that people enjoy immensely when slightly inebriated.
Well i love it and the albums brilliant.
Mortartube, sorry but thats a shocking idea in my opinion. It would kill creativity, pop music would be eating itself! (more than it is already|). Those blooming elvis releases are a case in point. Everyone search out good new British music, it is out there and its the best in the world, (though i quite like 'Lonely'), more than that no talent **** fifty pence.
I'm not buying it! Loved his first single but this one just makes me cringe!!!!
Its not a chipmunk its a Bobbie Vinton sample speeded up a lot!! The original is so much better than Akon's version but it is catchy in an annoying sort of way!

I like it, I think I would prefer it if it didn't have that little annoying voice in it (not Akon's) though.

I think that styles are just changing, RnB is huge now, young people (not all of them) like winding to RnB tunes.  I don't think you would catch you average 20 something bopping along to Hi-Ho Silver Lining.

What are you thinking Mortartube?  Come On Eileen?  Jees, you'll be asking us to start skidding across the floor on our knees soon and dancing with our grannies.  Community Centre discos nationwide.  Oooops upside your head......

Oooops upside yer head is a GREAT song!!!!!! :-D  A total classic! And rowing to that was the best exercise my thighs got when I was a teenagers!  Lower school discos rocked!
I agree with you!  In the 80's.  When we were 8.
I was lower school disco-ing in the mid 1990s when I was 11 or so.  "Lower school" for me meant the lower part of secondary school - now years 7 8 and 9.  Same do though - load of kids, trying to sneak vodka in in water bottles, being picked up at 11pm and thinking it was SO COOL to be up so late.  And we were probably dancing to "chipmunk" songs then too!!!  But then we also actually WATCHED the chipmunks on TV when we were young.  Or could have done if we'd wanted to!

Please report my duplicate post someone.  I didn't mean to do it! :S

My 3 year old loves the 'chipmonk' sampling. Obvious it was going to get to number 1, appealing to the under 5's & the R&B fans.

well ive got the song and most of the other songs on akon's album, i think tht its a gr8 song...the first time i heard it, it made me laugh!!

My nephew is only 3 and he is always singing "Mister Loneleeeeeeeey", also going off the point a bit but the Will Smith one really appeals to that age too.

acw we must be around the same age.  Vodka?  Did you go to a 'posh' school?  I thought it was White LIghtening and Mad Dog, and I remember Michael Jackson Earth Song being played all the time.  Don't remember hearing Hi Ho Silver Lining in the 90's!

Oooh, that "Young at Heart" by the Bluebells was on a lot though.

I'm technically acw_1983 - but only born 3 days into that year.  I went to a grammar school.  We realised that cider looks like wee, but vodka looks like water.  Also I tihnk we were probably stealing from our parents' liquor cupboards rather than risking going into shops where all the staff knew us.  We had one birthday party end VERY early when the girl's mum caught people drinking.  Poor thing was MORTIFIED!!

Earth song was a classic.  A friend and I studied Jacko as a composers topic.  We spend HOURS comiling a video about him.  And look how he turned out!  Hmmmm.

I hate this song. The sped up bobby vinton chorus is awful, and akon doesnt even "sing" more than about TWO notes. It would have been SLIGHTLY better if akon sang the chorus himself. And mortartube thats a horrible idea. and themodgrover, pop music isnt creative at all. just manufactured ********. and natalie stuff like this doesnt deserve to be called rnb. nothing from the past 5 years does. Its ********. pure ********, all new r&b singers are talentless ********. except a few. alicia keys, john legend, etc.

I didn't say it was RnB I was answering Mortatube, but if you say so then it must be right ;-)

acw - I'm November '82, so not too far off!

Akon has spelt his name wrong.  It is A Con, and Joe public, have once again fallen for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was never suggesting that record companies only release old stuff, but I think that Amarillo proves a point that there is a demand for good time singalong party stuff as well as the R&B and Hip Hop that seems to dominate the charts now. Such uplifting music seems to be missing from the charts now whether it be a re-released old track or something new in that style. Even dance music has been generally driven from the charts by R&B and Hip Hop. On a personal point, I feel that perhaps there should be a ban on sampling hook lines from famous records, I bet most of the R&B artists wouldn't even get a sniff of the chart action without stealing the recognisable bits from classic tunes.
I saw him perform this song on CD:UK the other week, and he was hideously flat. And it sounds like he is duetting with Sweetie the Chick. What is this song all about, and you're right SWEGGIE - who the flip buys this tosh?
