As much as I love Roy Orbison, Cyndi Lauper's version of I Drove All Night just about pips it for me.

Minty, thank you for that. I love that song and I didn't know that Brian Ferry had done a version of it.
Tilly the whole album is brilliant....
When i was a youngster - many Christmases ago - my absolute favourite band were The Animals and i loved everything they did. It was only later in life that i discovered that they never wrote any of their own songs. I have since googled and listened to the originals and have come to the unbiased conclusion that anything The Animals covered was better than the original:-)
murraymints - that is just fabulous!!!

What a voice!
Steve Miller has done lots of covers of blues songs and generally I prefer them over the originals.

For ken
There's probably better covers, but I like this one.
Born To Run by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, miles better than Springsteen.

Tom Traubert's Blues by Rod, Tom Waits was too gravelly.

Your Song by Ewen McGregor and Alessandro Safina, nice twist on Elton's classic and as good as the original IMHO.
