Watching this, a man has injured his thumb, why is he lying on a bed? He is not immobile?

Yes it looked odd but why not a chair?
A bed's more secure. If he lost consciousness he could slip out of a chair.
If he passed out on a bed he'd just lie there.
People faint whilst in pain and the cubicle would still be occupied, just with a bed at the side and him in a chair - not sure of your point?
