There are some bands whose output simply defies belief in terms of the enormity if its impact on fans.

For me, its led Zeppelin, no matter how many times I have played their music over the last forty-five years, I am still completely blown away by their invention and power, and the diversity of their songs.

The fact that I now have a granddaughter who was the age Robert Plant was when he sang on their first album only underlines their majesty.

Does anyone else still find themselves amazed at the sheer genius of their favourite bands?

Yes, for me it's Rush, and they're still producing quality music.

Interesting Sipowicz - Rush are one of those bands I have never managed to connect with - it's obvious that what they do is amazing - their reputation shows that - but I have never managed to get into their music at all.

I did interview Geddy Lee for a cover feature in Bass Guitar magazine - charming man, I didn't tell him that I don't enjoy what he does!
I agree with both of those ^^

Co loser to the heart, closer to the heeeaaaaaaarrrt
I'm sure you've probably seen this already, Andy, it's a couple of years ago now, but I only discovered it last night. Led Zep has never been my style, but this clip brought a tear to my eye ;)

Btw, I've got Robert Plant + Alison Krauss album :)

Thanks Bathsheba - I have indeed seen it, but it's a great clip.

I wonder what Plant and Page think when they see and hear a version of one of their songs performed?

The Plant /Krauss album is amazing, and proof of Plant's determination to be a cutting edge musician, and not rest on the justified legend of Zeppelin.
Wow Baths, that was fantastic.
Rush fan here too. Just great to listen to, you can hear the individual quality of each musician on every track.

Not really, genius is an overused word and imo this is another case where the word does not apply. Music like comedy is very subjective, one persons genius is another persons drivel.
Queen for me.
I enjoyed that, Baths but at the end of the song ...

'And shes Beijing‎ a stairway to heaven?

What happened there?
Beatles, Pink Floyd.

With you there Edmund.

Once The Beatles were released from the restrictions of having to play their music live on stage, the adopted the studio as an instrument, and took off into the stratosphere.

But first, they defined the most exciting two minutes of pop music ever written by recording I Saw Her Standing There. McCartney counts them in with that One Two Three FOUR ... and you know you are poised to hear one of the most exciting pieces of music ever written - and then they deliver it as promised.

As for Pink Floyd, I have seen them eight times, and they remain one of the finest live bands I have ever witnessed - which is a lot! Their music again transcended popular sounds of the time and saw them embark on a path to unique posterity through their wonderful career, now sadly over.
The Audio Bullies featuring Nancy Sinatra but they're not a band but this track is one of my favourites as I can relate to it and it helped me through a tough time in my life.

Talbot - //Not really, genius is an overused word and imo this is another case where the word does not apply. Music like comedy is very subjective, one persons genius is another persons drivel. //

I cannot really agree that one person's genius is another person's drivel - because that is a matter of taste rather than inspiration and realisation.

There are many bands and musicians whose works are clearly of a seriously high level of quality, which I simply do not enjoy, but that does not detract from their quality, or the skill used to create them.

I always cite Kate Bush as a musician to whom the overworked (entirely agree there!) word genius can legitimately be applied.
@ Jayne....glad you liked it!

@ Talbot.....dunno, will have to watch it again, lol, when I've got time :)

I think "genius" can sort of apply to music.

Greatness is Elina Garanca, Renee Fleming, Maria Callas, Anna Netrebko.

Genius is Kirsten Flagstad.
