This song is playing on my local station at the moment. I had completely forgotten about the Rubettes. Didn`t we listen to some rubbish in the early 70s? Happy times though.

The music might be considered rubbish by today standards but it was fun! You don't get that so much these days.

Someone said they didn't know what is teh current number one. It's One Dance by Drake- it's been there for 9 weeks. But it's unlikely many can sing it as it's rarely on the radio, it's never on TV as there is no video and it's always removed from youtube as soon as someone posts it. So i'm pretty certain very few will still be able to sing it in 40 years time.
Back to the 70s- yes, lots of great stuff (I liked Rubettes-Juke Box Jive and Bachman Turner Overdrive but lots of rubbish too

With the exception of Minnie Ripperton and the cod-Northern Soul songs, I love every one of those clips!

Pop in the '70's was wonderful with some dross, as it has been every decade before and since.

I saw The Rubettes on a '70's package tour, and they sang a four-part a capella version of After The Gold Rush that brought tears to my eyes it was so moving. Never judge a book ...

I have always hated the silly marketing ploy of 'guilty pleasures'.

If you like a song, you like it. Saying you feel 'guilty' for liking it implies that you think pop music has a graded level of respect, which it doesn't, and it also says that you care far too much about what other people think about your taste in music.

Yes, we got glam rock, punk and northern soul (from 60s but resurrected) and the rock bands (Floyd, Led Zep, Queen)

Tonyav - people may (rightly!) laugh at Rob Davis' super-camp styling which was always tongue-in-cheek, but no-one laughs at his song-writing skills - he co-wrote Spiller's Groovejet and Kylie's Can't Get You Out Of My Head.

237SJ - I saw Steve Harley on a music documentary on iplayer recently. He is one of the few musicians from that era who looks well //

I have interviewed him a couple of times, and marvelled at how bad his toupee is, looks like a dead squirrel on his head, although I think his newest one is a bit better.

Also, when he started, he had a very handsome aquiline nose, which he has hard surgery on, and had in replaced with a limp of plastecine.

I didn't play the clip - I thought it was something like Footsie by Wigan's Chosen Few - but I see it is genuine footage of the wonderful and much misses Casino.

I was never sure why Footsee gets so much stick. Wasn't it an actual track by Chosen Few that was simply re-branded or rerecorded exactly like the original? I bought it and it was a good decision as I discovered the wonderful Chuck Wood 7 Days is Too Long on the B side

I loved the 70s and early 80s, these were my biking days when I had long hair, studded black leather jacket and jeans and stinking of patchouli oil and was rocking it out to Ozzy!!
