The lyrics of the chorus are: 'You gave it all, please don't be cruel to be kind, oh I know that mood....' and it's not that 60's song Cruel to be Kind. I'm sure it's from the late 70's but have never heard it on the radio. If anyone can help I'd be really grateful as I have had this song in my head for years and am beginning to wonder if I made it all up!!!! Thanks in advance.

Nick Lowe had a hit with 'Cruel To Be Kind' in 1979....however, your lyrics do not seem to match his !
