Mark, and his brother David, were born in Glasgow. They grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne. Mark moved to London in 1974 to become a teacher. Then in 1977, in London, Dire Straits was formed.

I think he is Scottish. Hence the statement he made after the Dunblane shootings ( and I am paraphrasing ) : "It troubles me as I am a parent and I am Scottish". I was just testing the waters.

Amazing newsflash........Andy Hughes gets one wrong for the first time ever!!!!!!!! Yep he was born in Glasgow but was raised in Newcastle when his father had to move there to get work.

Thanks for the compliment sft42, but I have got answers wrong plenty of times! I usually answer if I know for sure, and if not, I point out that I'm taking a guess, or I try and find out. On this occasion, I simply banged an answer off without really being sure, still I'm always open to correction, as I hope is everyone on the AB.
