Best - Jeff Buckley - 'Hallelujah' and Joe Cocker - 'With A Little Help From My Friends'.
Worst - Madonna - 'American Pie', Whitney Houston - 'I Will Always Love You', 'Frank Sinatra - 'Mrs. Robinson', Paul Anka - 'Jump', Wet Wet Wet - 'With A Little Help From My Friends'.
(please note - list suspended, red mist descending, the old gentleman has gone for a hyperventilate and a nice lie down ....)

i agree with jeff buckleys halleujah, but also jimi hendrix all along the watchtower, i cant even listen to bob dylans origional! worst has got to be anything nowadays really, most of the chart music is either covered or sampled and of course none of it is better because how do u improve on perfection? if it aint broke dont fix it!
the lemonheads covered mrs Robinson ( and I loved it but then I think Simon and Garfunkel are weak and poncey)
The worst cover version has to be Will Young singin Light my FIre
The best Im gonna jump on the Jeff Buckley band wagon, and say Hallelujah.
My favourite is Starsailor covering Jealous Guy.

Comical ones are William Shatner...Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and recently(ish) Pulps Common People
Ones to avoid are 99% of boy/girl bands that must just go through the Big Bumper Book of 70s, 80s and 90s hits and then murder it...even if its for charity its still annoying
McFly - Dont Stop Me Now
Girls Aloud - Stand by You
Atomic Kitten - Eternal Flame, and Tide is High and many more
Boyzone (Ronan Keating), Westlife - far too many too mention
99% of X-factor, Pop Idol, Fame Acadamy people who covered and then released songs
Phew....
Good ones...Yep already been mentioned Jeff Buckley, and Johnny Cashs version of Hurt are 2 that are favs of mine
Also The first Cut is the Deepest has been covered a good few times, and I havent heard a bad one yet
Knocking on heavens door and Live and let die were ably covered by Guns and Roses..but still prefer the orginals

Good: Eva Cassidy - Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Faith No More - Easy, Disturbed - Shout, Morcheeba - Summertime, Tatu - How Soon Is Now (sorry but I like it).
Bad: Any of the many covers by Westlife. They have a special power to suck the soul out of songs and turn them into bland forgettable rubbish. The bar stewards.
