I think the most famous version was by Patti Page in the 1950s, although it was written by Bob Merrill, using inspiration from an old Victorian ditty.
Lita Roza had a number 1 hit in 1953 and Patti Page only got to number 9 also in 1953 . hope that is a bit of help for you
"How much is that doggie in the window"
"The sun has got his hat on"
"Lets all sing like the birdies sing"

The 50's sure were the place to be for lovers of great music
i certainly prefer the 50's music with all its innocence to the modern day effing and blinding of these so called artists! Having been born in 40's and brought up in the 50's and hit the music scene of the early 60's I can honestly say that was the era for music, its an old chestnut I know , but how many of todays songs will still be played on a regular basis on radio, party's etc as the music of that era is played now some 40 and 50 years on, answer, diddly s**t!!!!
There was also a version (can't remember who by) where the song was sung completly backwards...
Window the in doggy that is much how
Tail waggerly the with one the....
and so on. Go on have a go, see if you can get all the way through. You'll all be doing it.
