Does anyone know who wrote the song 'walking in memphis' and who performed it first, mark cohn or cher? and if possible what years they released the song thnks :)

marc cohn preformed it first not sure who wrote it though

I'm pretty sure Marc Cohn wrote it as well. Certainly wasn't written by Cher.

Marc Cohn wrote the song and had a hit twice in 1991 firstly in May number 66 then again in October when it reached number 22....Cher gargled her way through it in October 1995 reaching number 11 ( a travesty that the original and better version doesn't chart higher eh?).....you can find the lyrics and more about Marc Cohn here http://www.oneart.com/cgi-bin/cohn/showlyrics.cgi?
