Blimey, who didn't?! I think Danny Kaye may have been the first, though.
Ronnie Hilton
Danny Kaye had far too much taste.
Yes, it was dreadful but I bet there's a few people here singing it!

It was Ronnie Hilton by the way.

Didn't that wonderful super star Max Bygraves do a version of sorts ?
The childrens television programme 'Tikkabilla' do an ascoutic version fairly regularly !! Set your video if your at work.
Val Doonican?
No, I was quite wrong - but he did have two singles in the chart at the same time as Ronnie Hilton. Now that's what I call useful information.
It was Ronnie Hilton, and Ronnie Hilton only. I have a copy on an album, and it's not dreadful, it's a wonderful children's song. It's a pity five-year-olds don't listen to more songs like this today instead of boy and girl bands singing about nothing other than sex.
Dont forget the Manfred Mann version in the 60s or was it the 70s? Anyway, I think it is a fantastic song, filled with imagination and sillyness and a nice tune too
