I have just started to play bass, (am over 40, well nearer 50 actually). I see someone has asked about playing guitar earlier, I am also looking for a simple (due to age and gender) tuition dvd or book to help me on my way. Any ideas please would be appreciated.

i don't know if this is any use http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ my son is learning the guitar and uses this website in between lessons..
From experience, I can tell you nothing beats a human teacher for bass. And also if you can get some friends who are beginners at guitar and drums you're laughing. Put an ad in your local free press - you'll be amazed.

And you're never too old!!!!

My hubby recommends music book (including CD): Absolute Beginners BASS Guitar by Music. 9.99.

He sells a lot of them (also available from Amazon.co.uk).
