Shirley Manson, that is! Listening to Garbage's new album, it would seem to suggest Shirley has split from her husband. That's what the lyrics imply anyway. Is she just writing in character, or have her protacted absences from home caused a rift?

It appears Shirley is writing 'in character' for the album. As Garbage fans will know, Shirley keeps her sculptor husband Eddie totally out of the limelight - it's impossible even to find a photograph of him! The absences caused by Shirley's touring and recording with Garbage mean her marriage is "like being in the army" and it takes her a few days to adjust from 'rock star' to 'housewife' when she does come home. That said, the arrangement works perfectly well for hundreds of male rock stars, Shirley would be annoyed if people thought it wouldn't work for her as a woman - obviously it does.
