I have recently purchased a package comprising software and leads to transfer music from my record player to my computer. This involves a lead from the headphone socket to the line in socket of my computer. It works well except for a constant hum. It appears to be picking up the hum from other equipment in the room as when i connect the lead to the headphone socket on my DAB radio the hum dissapears.
Does anyone know of a simple supressor that may solve this problem or have any other suggestions
Hum is usually mains induced (50Hz). To overcome this you need to use a screened cable and also make sure that the cable isn't routed near to any mains leads.
As the hum goes when you connect a different unit it suggests that the hum is coming from your record player / amp.
You will probably get a hum from the record player as they are magnetic, I put all my 45's onto cd's using a cd recorder about 6 years ago and I had to use my disco mixer and plug my record deck into that to get rid of the hum. The only other way is to buy a USB record deck....
Exactly what I've done Disco Fever, installed the recording software (included with the turntable) plugged it in and away yer go - brilliant !. I'd forgotten how vinyl I'd actually got as it ain't seen the light of day for yonks. You can record them to mp3 format and then burn 'em to disc, or if you've got your hi-fi rigged up to the computer just play and enjoy.
