Harvey Andrews lives near me - Stoke-on-Trent - and performs regularly in the area.
I recall friends telling me that when the Dutch prog. band Focus toured in the early '70's, HA was their support act. By the time he finished singing 'The Soldier', there wasn't a dry eye in the house, and when they toured again, HA was again the opener, and this time, when he strummed the opening chords, people started to cry.
Everyone I have played that song for has had either tears in their eyes, or a lump in their throat by the end, and I have been playing it occasionally for the last thirty-five years, and it still makes me cry every time.
Now that is how to communicate in song.

andy-hughes...........interesting bit of history, that you related and honestly the song makes me cry as well but i think for different reasons............i hope i do that the song does not relate to a real event , but rather one that could have taken place.....and being from northen ireland..............i guess what makes me cry is thinking that others might believe that we could be so callous..........as to not realise the heroism of such a young man and forever honour his sacrifice...............and i pray to god we never are. once again thanks so much for sharing :-)
