The term "White label" applies to records themselves, not necessarily the mixes on them. A white label is an unsigned record with a blank label on it and no information about artist or title. Only a limited number of these are produced, usually at the expense of the artist. Many dance records originate in this way before they are picked up and signed by record labels.
I have white labels from established acts from the 80s. They are an early form of promotion. Sometimes they may have been sent out as annonymous records to get radio / club airplay before the act releases the track. The term applies to the disc just having a "white label", on which the act and title may have been written.
