Also, there are certain characters that crop up in a lot of Blues music, off the top of my head there's "Stagger Lee", although having said that, most are cover versions.
If you do a search for 'songs about Martin Luther King' there seems to be dozens about or dedicated to him. I admit to not recognising a lot of them but Happy Birthday by Stevie Wonder and Pride ( in the name of love ) by U2 are probably two of the best known ones.
I agree that love has the most songs written about it, by a very long way ; but it's a feeling / emotion and so doesn't fit into any the categories asked for.
