How Many Inches Do You Need?

My mate is a big sports fan. He has just bought a 58" TV at £2,700. He has gone for the full hit, BOSE surround sound and full Sky package to boot. He is paying in installments over 12 months, but even still do you need a TV that big. I thought ours at 40" was a bit on the big side.
Got to tell you though, I am lookin forward to a couple of cold ones and the football at the weekend. We will send the girls shopping!!

Our friends got a 40 odd inch one the other week, and when we were up there we watched XFactor in high deff too. Can't say I was impressed to be honest, could see all the peoples spots and pimples- it nearly put me off me supper.

he has got to have a huge lounge to be able to see the picture clearly.

we have just swapped our 42" for a 46" though it doesnt actually look much bigger and the frame seems to be narrower.

He has bought the brackets etc to mount the thing on the wall as oppose to having on a stand. His living room in long and narrow with the furniture at the opposite end to the TV, he must be going for a cinema effect or something.
I would worry that the thing would pull the wall down.

Recommended viewing distance is between 7'6 and 15' for that size of tv...must have a big room or is simply under the misconception that the bigger the tv the better it must be.

CooBeastie - Like I say the room is long and narrow. I would guess 12m in length by perhaps 6-7m wide. It is a funny shape, the house is a georgian detatched that was bought and split in to 3 flats, he has the downstairs flat but I always feel the floorplan wasnt thought out properly. Never the less he got the TV now!!

I have a 32' and that is big enough for me. I would like to mount mine on the wall but then where are all the bulky scart leads going to go for the DVD player and V+box?! I have enough trouble keeping them in place as the cats go and brush past the leads every now and then.

12 x 7m?? crikey, he can easliy watch a 58" in there then!
