I dont think Peter kay sang the song. At the start of the video in Comic relief it gave the name of the singer and said that the song was mimed by peter Kay. Smashing video though
Question Author

i know its not Peter Kays song, its Tony Christie.  Its been re-released due to Peter Kay for comic relief.

its well funny when ronnie corbett falls over

Tony Christie sings the song.  It's a re-release of the original which was in the charts in 1971.  Peter Kay has used the track in his live shows and on a dvd hence him being asked to do the video, and no doubt his name will help sell the song for comic relief.

to answer the question, YES.  Always did like the song, very singable.  I'm off to buy it tomorrow.

Altogether now......

When the day is dawning,  On a Texas Sunday morning.......

Yes, and deservedly so, the video was very funny - had'nt realised it at the time, but apparently Ronnie Corbett really did fall off the treadmill!
Question Author

yes he does fall off for real, they were going to edit that out but luckily Mr. Corbett saw the funny side! Parky's face is classic when he see's him fall!

Number one all the way! ;o)

Bloody hell.........now I can't stop singing this song and my boss is threatening to sack me if I don't shut up.......can't say I blame him I'm a pretty crap singer - mind you if he looks over my shoulder and sees this on my screen, my P45 will soon be winging its way towards me!!

Definite No 1

When I first saw the video I said to a friend if Neil and Christine Hamilton don't appear either side of Peter Kay during this video I'll eat my hat..............could you pass the salt !

ps...........if the BBC were looking for a family entertainer then they need look no further than Kay, he'd be an excellent host of the Generation Game and shows of this genre.

He also mimes it in character as Max (and Paddy) driving a minibus of old people I think in an episode of Pheonix nights. That is enough to make anyone fall in love with the song! Look out for it, it's truly worth it.

Yes i do think the song will get to number one it is very good and funny!
I hope so. It's just so cheesey and happy! I bought it today ;P

peter kay and paddy acctually sing the song for real in Phoenix nights in the mini bus scene (no miming)

...this will def. be number one , I work in Woolies and by 11 this morning we were sold out...

I think it's a class song and Peter Kay just makes it really funny.

Peter Kay is a brilliant comic.
Does anyone know whether Peter Kay will be going on tour? If so will he be coming to Newcastle?

cheers.

HI Sponge,

This morning I woke up singing this song, and when I saw a colleague this morning she was singing it too.  Now I can't get it out of my head.....

...'is this the way to amarillo....' la, la, la la,.......dee-dee, d-dee, dee-dee dee-dee, tra-la la la,

Question Author

when you sing it do you imagine walking to the tune!! cos i do!

it's been confirmed that it's a dead cert for No. 1....it is outselling every other single in the top 20, combined.

I've got the Max & Paddy version from Phoenix Nights on MP3 and it's ace!It even does them honking the horn after the sha la la's!

Peter Kay n Tony Christie have gotta get to number 1!

this song is awesomely addictive!

definate number one as i couldn't find it in any record shops today, all sold out.  hmv says more are being pressed 'hourly' but it's the video that will sell it!  i believe one version of the cd comes with the video.
