One of the two reasons Test Track and trace has failed was made very plain and simple by News night last night, glad they highlighted that. It appears that up to 70% of people in certain areas that applied for the so called support ( money) from the government, to enable them to isolate after testing positive was not granted. So what does that person do with no money to pay rent or mortgage, no money to pay gas/ elec, and more important no money to feed them or their kids if they have them. The free school meal has 4 bottles of water 2 carrots, 4 slices of cheese, tin of beans, half a pepper, and one loaf of bread. ?
So news night now knows that person who think they may have covid , will not go to be tested in fear of being told to stop at home, ( and they can't afford to) so they go to work. So what choice do they have? A big fat ZERO.

Even ICU nurses/ doctors and scientists have said they can understand why people are having to make that choice.
Government have done nothing more than wrap a bundle of false promises up in pretty paper and a ribbon, very much like a crap Christmas present, looks great on the outside, but a load of crap on the inside.

You said that people were forced to "go into work" after testing positive because of financial difficulties. Were they not allowed sickness benefits and were their employers not paying them? Have the self employed not also been paid in advance for putting themselves on furlough? Did they blow it all on takeaways and coke because the food boxes didn't have those items in them?
Is that all they get on sickness benefit? Well I never. Love to meet this fantasy person with 4 kids, 4 bottles of water, a fulltime job, laid low with covid but still working, and they can keep their mouth shut. Be thankful for small mercies I suppose, but there is always one who "gets off" on being distraught on behalf others ... whether they want it or not.
Can Teacake tell us who all these people are- whats there situation and why they need the money.
If working from home then they dont need support.
If on UC they dont need extra support and wouldnt be eligable
If on pension they dont need extra support and wouldnt be elagable.
If working but not from home there employer may agree to pay sick pay, furlough or paid holidays. Am sure public sector would still pay them.
If sick then sick pay
So 70% of what. Maybe we're talking about 70% of a handful

There are very well documented examples of TT&I (or more correctly the same concept in another language) working extremely well and in at least one example leading to repeated waves being corralled and sharply curtailed. If others can do it then there is no excuse for it not working elsewhere, such as in the UK - it is a matter of competent execution and public co-operation /compliance.
