M Ps Second Jobs
7 Answers
What hours are MPs supposed to work? Full time, part time or some other working pattern? If full time should they be allowed to have a second job? Are the jobs taxed together so they pay 45% or whatever it is after 150k of combined salary?
I'm usually knackered after a whole day's work and could never contemplate taking on more work. Or maybe that's just me.
Thanks

Theres no problem with people having 2 or more jobs, some of my team have more, but there paid for set hours or per hour. Mps should commit a set number of hours but of course its quality not quantity so maybe its up to the voters to decide whether theyve done enough.
I dont mind occasional second jobs as doctors or barristers like Kier but think all these lobbying consultants roles should be stopped

I have no problem with MPs having second jobs as long as they prioritise their elected roles.

Being an MP is clearly not a 9 to 5 job, so the potential for additional employment is there.
Only constituents can judge if an MP's additional employment is impacting on their ability to discharge their responsibilities appropriately, and if they decide not, then they can vote elsewhere at election time.
