'Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will cost the global economy $2.8 trillion in lost output by the end of next year—and even more if a severe winter leads to energy rationing in Europe.'

With the outlook to be a continued process of slaughter for months, maybe years to come of life (human & animal) & destruction of habitation & infrastructure at a rate not seen since WW2. Is the loss of a small region of the extreme west Donbass regions of Ukraine (plus the Crimea, which has been Russian for 300 years) worth the prolongation, & possible risks of the use of nuclear & chemical weapons ?

Amen to most of the above.

I think khandro means not “extreme west Donbas” (??) but “most of Donbas to the east” and “large chunks of S Ukraine” .
It’s not a war about annexing bits of a country but about annihilating and entire nation by a regime which has set its sights on the civilised western world.
Stop doing Putin’s work for him albeit unwittingly khandro. The man and his regime are evil beyond belief: they have changed the narrative from “denazification” (maybe they couldn’t take the irony of that any longer) to “desatanisation”
It would be bonkers funny had their war of choice not cost getting on for an estimated quarter million lives in 8 months. 70,000 of their own mainly young men included.
They’re getting slaughtered at the rate of 500 a day so this isn’t going to be a military war that lasts years
As I always say: if you’d ever wondered what you’d have done to stop Hitler, you’re doing it now with Putin (“you” being “you” in general )
//it's worth seeing them defeated this time.//

That isn't a possibility, dave.
This is.

// steg: No I don't support landgrabs at all, but it's a rather complicated region historically. Do you know anything about it?…. //

Aye I do know a bit…
Maybe you could point out the bit that gives Russia/putin the rite to invade Ukrainian tho
I see Israel has belatedly stepped in with strikes on Iranian resources in Syria (more than normal at any rate) and reports in the Israeli press they’re sending battery powered “smart shooter” anti drone devices to Ukraine
Is the loss of a small region
is not the question

is doing nohting now and allowing Russia to 're-claim' unwilling members worth the extensive war when they do it with Nistria Moldova, hungary poland estonia latvia and lithuania

no

Brzhnev doctrine - once soviet always soviet 1968
additionally I must have missed the bit where Putin said “give me this tiddly bit of someone else’s country” and I’ll be nice.
Frankly, even if he did say that who would believe him. He’s tried that once too often
Well fornicate me Kandro, would you be willing to cede your backyard to random invaders?

We're ceding our backyards to random invaders... it would racist to resist.
Well said Khandro at some stage this has to end. For the good of everyone not least to stop the terrible suffering by the people in Ukraine, very easy for us all to spout 'never give in' we ain't going through it, for goodness sake at least get some talks started for everyone's sake!!
Putin isn't going to listen
try again.
Putin won't talk unless you agree to give him what he wants.
//very easy for us all to spout 'never give in'…. //

It is… but as long as Ukrainians are saying it, then I support them
Get your boots on and sort it out, dave.
Or you could stop expecting other people to.
Another one. Get your boots on and get over there. Your 'support' must be invaluable to them.
Don't know why you are focussing on me when you are in such a small minority here.
//Get your boots on and get over there. Your 'support' must be invaluable to them.//

I’ve just no long taken them off….. it was ;)
You seemed to think that Ukraine can beat Russia militarily.
It can't.
It's all of you. Sat on your fat ***, cheering for more war. You make me sick.
I realise that it's a difficult decision but to end it by accepting Putin's claim to the small areas he has annexed on Russia's border seems a sensible way to end the awful suffering and perhaps avoid severe consequences all around the world for our children and grandchildren, someone, somewhere in authority has to have the courage to say this publicly.
