The election will be on Tuesday 8 November, but the Kenyan won't leave immediately? Will he be around for another three months or so?

Is there any particular reason that the Americans have such a long period after the election? It's always seemed to me that the Government is in limbo for those 7 weeks, other countries don't do this.
