The daily statements from no 10, all you keep hearing is the same day after day, (stay at home, wash your hands, save lives, protect the NHS,) yes yes I've got it!! The real questions that get asked by journalists get danced around as per normal by politicians.
Also less than 1 in 5000 then, Mamya. What should we multiply the confirmed cases by to get the actual cases? Who knows, because hardly anybody is being tested.
I don't understand why they keep telling us the 'confirmed cases' figure, and certainly why we try to compare that with other countries with totally different testing regimes. Sadly the most meaningful figure is deaths. The figures are low but given that they double every 3 -4 days the figures will soon be a few thousand a week
woofgang 19.47, that site is risible as it actually contains less data for the UK than on worldometer
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/
One can actually get more info about the UK on an international site than from UK authorities/agencies. Great.
I think the answer is they are hoping that the rate of increase will slow down in 2-3 weeks from now This assumes the social distancing and the Shield system for the most vulnerable is as effective as is hoped and that testing can also help stop carriers infecting others. But they are wisely not being too specific yet
Pixie - I've just remembered that Easter has been mentioned by Dr Jennie Harries so that's 2 weeks from now I think- although I think the peak could be a few days later and I think it's as much their hope as their projection- and it depends on us

Thank goodness we have Nicola talking sense in her daily update. In addition, she has a signer with her so that those who are deaf don't miss out on the latest news.
"Scotland Cares" is launched tomorrow. Scots can register to volunteer to help during coronavirus crisis.
If only the rest of the UK would follow in Scotland's footsteps.
roy, what twaddle you spout - over 600,000 people across the UK have volunteered to help out in response to the request to support the UK.....I don't think we are all Scots, not unless Nicola has annexed Cornwall for example.
The figures they give for "confirmed cases" is only for those who have been tested. I know 5 people, including my son, who have definitely had the virus but because they didn't end up in hospital they weren't tested and therefore don't exist in the stats. Ergo the stats are meaningless (apart from the horrific number of deaths)
